It was in 1868 that the Guy family settled in the Domaine de Coujan. Since then, she has maintained her love of nature and wine, drawing beautifully from the rare wealth of this Saint Chinian terroir.
Imagine an island of fossilized coral to ideally drain the soil of a vineyard and plant the noble grape varieties as François Guy did, add the passion of this man, who is for many in the development of the St Chinian appellation and you will have a better vision of what made the famous wines of Coujan.
Today, his daughter Florence is in charge of the estate. The domaine covers an area of 54 ha. The vines are planted on hillsides at an altitude of 140 meters on a clay-limestone soil.
In the autumn of 2008, the gradual conversion to organic farming of the 140 hectares of cultivated land starts. Evidence for the Guy family who sees a new equilibrium gradually put in place.
Insects, butterflies, birds, vines, orchards, medicinal plants, fields and scrubland are now making Château Coujan an island of biodiversity.
