Quinta da Gricha
Portugal - Douro
In 1999, the purchase of Quinta da Gricha, ranked “A” in the Port Wine Institute hierarchy, pushed Churchill’s into Douro wine production, establishing the house as a major player in the market. This 50 hectare plot is located on the south bank of the Douro, between the towns of Pinhao and Tua, in the prestigious sub-region of Cima Corgo. The vineyards are planted between 150 and 250 meters above sea level and overlook the sumptuous Douro.
During the first six months, the young vintage port spent the winter months at Quinta da Gricha, in the Douro vineyard, and then was taken down to one of the cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, where it was stored in a stainless steel tank until bottling.
Touriga nacional, touriga franca, tempranillo (tinta roriz).
This Vintage still has an intense blueberry character, with a creamy aspect, delicious liveliness. The structure is smooth and the finish is well balanced. This port has a raw luster, combining purity of fruit with a vein of natural acidity, which will give this wine great aging potential.
