True Japanese whiskeys are as rare as they are popular.

However, a few nuggets were still missing on the French market: this is the case of Kirin whiskey, produced at the foot of Mount Fuji in the Fuji Gotemba distillery which controls the entire production process.

The distillery, belonging to the Kirin group known in France for its eponymous Japanese beer, was created in 1970 and began to distill in 1973.

At the foot of Mount Fuji, in the city of Gotemba, the distillery enjoys a unique environment.

The region is abundant in water from the volcano whose basaltic composition is one of the richest in the world.

The air is also cool with an average temperature around 13 °, the distillery being located 12 km from the peak of the volcano, about 620 m above sea level. Finally, the ambient humidity, due to the mist that can often be seen on the volcano, is ideal for aging whiskey.

During production, the distillery takes care of the entire manufacturing process, from brewing to bottling, for malt whiskeys, but also three types of grain whiskeys using three different distillation techniques.

A know-how that has allowed him to distinguish himself with his 25-year-old Small Batch voted best grain whiskey in the world at the World Whiskeys Awards in 2016.
