Longrow 18 Years Old is a peated single malt from a double distillation produced at the Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown. Springbank is perched on the edge of Campbeltown Loch down the Kintyre Peninsula in the west of Scotland, about a three hour drive south-west of Glasgow. At one time, Campbeltown was the heart of the whiskey industry, a small town of about 5,000 souls, had an incredible 30 legal distilleries and proclaimed itself the whiskey capital of the world.
This single malt was aged in ex-second fill sherry casks (60%) and in ex-first fill bourbon casks (40%).
Nose: Sweet fruits, citrus, peaches and orange zest at the start, before a sweet peaty and earthy aroma is revealed.
Palate: Rich and very tasty. Well balanced, dark chocolate, coffee and gingerbread in the foreground, followed by rhubarb and vanilla cream.
Overall: Long and smooth, a hint of typical Longrow smoke combined with more chocolate and some dried fruit.
