Clos des Cistes

Coteaux du Languedoc AOP

Marlène Soria's work is unique in the Languedoc.

Her wines are inseparable from the will and charisma of their creator. Mysterious, magical, sometimes inexplicable, they impose a stylistic unity and a capacity to age, especially the whites, true UFOs for the region. The Oro cuvée, made from rolle, roussanne and viognier, aged for almost ten years in vats and bottles and which has been produced on the heights of Saint-Pargoire since the beginning of the 1990s, is as limited as it is coveted. The reds, on the other hand, are quite tightly woven, even hard. Dominated by a solar syrah from very low yields, they are aged for a long time in the cellar in order to civilise their tannins (a minimum of two years in vats, doubled by the same amount of time in the bottle).

Old vintages are a must!

This cuvée is a blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Grenache from the terroirs of Saint-Pargoire, a village classified as a Coteaux du Languedoc AOC (then Languedoc AOP). The vines are about 25 years old and the fermentation is traditionally carried out in stainless steel and concrete vats, with a small amount of lightning. The first vintage of Clos des Cistes was 2002. Small yields of just 15 hectolitres per hectare.

Grape varieties:

90% Syrah and 10% Grenache Noir.

Tasting notes:

The ruby colour with garnet highlights reveals complex and pure scents: Mediterranean spices, garrigue, tapenade, prune, dates and smoky/lardy notes. On the palate, the touch is very unctuous with a broad and diffuse mid-palate without ever falling into heady opulence. The wine stays upright with fantastic length.

Wine style :

Complex and racy red wine.

Food and wine pairing:

Leg of lamb from the Cathar region with fresh oregano and roasted turnips with vine shoots. Thick veal chop, baked in the oven, artichoke barigoule, purée with black olives from Nyons.

Potential aging in your cellar :

30 years

Analysis :

75 cl - 13,5 % volume

Contains sulphites
