Bodegas Marañones, created in 2008 by Fernando Garcia, is part of the DO (the equivalent of our AOC in France) of Madrid. It is located 70 kms west of Madrid in the sub-district of San Martin de Valdeiglesias between Toledo and Avila and at the confluence of the Sierra de Gredos and the Sierra de Guadarrama. The region is particularly hilly with numerous alluvial valleys. The climate is Mediterranean. The summers are hot, the winters cold and long.
Delicate maceration, punching of the cap, low temperature fermentation with indigenous yeasts and malolactic fermentation in tuns are the main characteristics of the red wine making at the estate.
Grenache, in this region, has a very floral aromatic palette, with great elegance and delicacy. The acidities are well marked and the wine has a lot of minerality.

Grape varieties:

90% grenache noir and 10% morate.
Ageing: 8 months on the lees in 2,500 to 11,500 litre tuns, separate grape varieties. Blended and then aged in tuns for a further 2 months. Unfined, unfiltered wine.

Tasting notes:

The colour is ruby. The nose is pleasant with notes of red fruits, floral notes, peony and sweet spices. The palate is very delicate with delicate and long fruit. A lovely, tasty texture for this Grenache-dominated blend in a sunny vintage.

Wine style :

Full-bodied and complex red wine.

Food and wine pairing:

Rack of black pork, thyme jus, mashed potatoes with black truffles. Black Angus entrecote with crisp vegetables.
