Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe

2020

Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC

France - Vallée du Rhône

The Vieux Télégraphe estate has been run by the Brunier family for six generations, exactly since 1891.
The vineyard, with an average age of 60 years, is located on the famous Crau plateau, the Mecca of Châteauneuf-du-Pape winegrowing. This terroir gives the wines a very special minerality, as if they had been filtered through the thick layer of rolled pebbles left behind when the Alpine glaciers melted, long before the Rhône Valley was formed.

The white of the Vieux Télégraphe estate represents only 5% of the property's production. This cuvée is characteristic of the classic school of Châteauneuf-du-Pape whites, with more floral than fruity aromas, and shows balance and freshness that make it suitable for long cellaring.

   Grape varieties :

40% clairette, 30% grenache blanc, 15% bourboulenc and 15% roussanne
Manual harvest with double sorting in the vineyard, followed by a third sorting in the cellar. Pressing in a pneumatic press, followed by static settling. Fermentation in barrels, demi-muids and 30 hectolitre tuns.

   Tasting notes:

The wine has a beautiful intense golden yellow colour with clear and brilliant reflections. The nose is very expressive, revealing a bouquet of acacia, honeysuckle, broom, white fruit, pear and mirabelle plum. This aromatic ensemble rests on a very pleasant mineral and spicy background. On the palate, the wine is frank. From the outset, a beautiful freshness balances the whole until the finish. The aromatic expression is still dominated by notes of white flowers and white fruit, with a beautiful underlying minerality. Harmonious balance for this Châteauneuf-du-Pape which deserves a few years of bottle age to develop its complexity.

    Food and wine pairing :

Fricassee of shellfish with fresh thyme and fennel. Poultry with yellow wine and morel confit.

    Cellar ageing potential :

15 years
