History: Once upon a time
Fulk of the Abbot of the Abbey of Ardorel (Tarn), who founded in 1139 the Abbey Valmagne on land granted by the Lord Cabrières vassal Raymond Tencavel, viscount of Beziers. Became Cistercian in 1145, the Abbey is rapidly increasing its dependencies ... LE MAS DEL NOVI was one of his "barn" to wine vocation, located on the surrounding hills and enjoying stunning views of the nearby coastline. Like its Roman predecessor, the Via Domitia - drawn between Nemausus (Nîmes) and Baeterrae (Beziers) - The Way of Saint Jacques de Compostela passes close to the Abbey, which was even a halt to its pilgrims.
An ordeal still exists MAS DEL NOVI, where you can read "Siste viator and ora" (traveler, sit and pray!).
In the revolutionary years after 1789, the Abbey was attacked by the local farmers who burned all documents concerning the property rights of the monks.
Thus, this vast area could be divided between several private landowners.
